The chemical firm Melamin - kemicna tovarna d.d. is located in the town of Kocevje in southeastern Slovenia, about sixty kilometers from Ljubljana. The factory was built in 1954 and currently employs 206 workers. Melamin became a joint stock company in 1996, and in 1997 its sales amounted to 3.2 billion tolars (35 million DEM), 55% of which were export sales, primarily to Western European markets.

The company is comprised of three divisions:

Wood industry division
Chemical industry division
Footwear industry division

Wood industry division products:

MELAFILM - melamine decorative films used for surface laminating of particle boards.
MELAPAN
1. Decorative laminates used for furniture finishes, floors, and in the transportation industry.
  Decorative laminates fall into the following categories:
  - General purpose laminates
  - Fire-retarding laminates used in ship interiors
  - Post-forming laminates for furniture finishing and edging
  - Scratch and abrasion resistant floor laminates
  - Compact self-supporting laminates for cabin walls, wardrobes, etc.
2. Technical laminates used as mechanical base panels in printed circuit production.

Chemical industry division products:

MELAPRET - melamine and epychlorohydine resins used for wet-strength improvement of paper.
UREPRET - urea resins used in the paper industry
KOMELOL - etherified melamine and urea resins used in the production of dyes and varnishes
MELDUR - melamine and/or urea based glues used in the wood processing industry
MELAKLEJ - synthetic sizing agents used in the paper industry
AGROGEL - super-absorbent polymer for water retention in soil used in agriculture, gardening, and indoor planting

Footwear industry division products:

TERMOFLEX - thermoplastic impregnated materials used for toe puffs and counters in the shoe manufacturing industry

PETEX - solvent activated impregnated materials used for toe puffs and counters in the shoe manufacturing industry

Melamin has grown on the basis of the company’s own research and development. Our basic strategy and the guideline for our technological development is the constant ability to adapt to new customer needs and demands. Much attention is devoted to the high quality of our products. In 1994, Melamin received the ISO 9001/EN 29001 Certificate of Quality and is currently in the process of obtaining the ISO 14001 Certificate of Environmental Management System.
