World Trade Center Ljubljana became a member of the World Trade Centers Association in April 1990 and began operating from temporary offices in the office building of SMELT Engineering, its founding company. In 1991, construction of a new 15-story business center began, and in September 1993 the new World Trade Center Ljubljana Office Tower and Shopping Mall opened. Today, The World Trade Center Ljubljana is in the group of 104 operating World Trade Centers with Facilities and in 1996 was among the first fifteen World Trade Centers in the world to pass the WTCA certification program. The World Trade Center Ljubljana Office Tower is the highest office building in Slovenia. Built to the latest technical standards for design and telecommunication equipment, it currently houses eighty-five companies from various countries in Europe, North America, and Asia, among them world-renowned firms such as Microsoft, Oracle, Dupont, Sony, the Korea Trade Center, Shell, Swiss Air, Pfiser, Merc, Peugeot, and many others as well as Slovene companies such as Merkur, Triglav Insurance, SKB banka, the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, Kompas Holidays, DHL, the Slovenian Tourist Board, the Euroinfo Center, and the Gea College business school. The World Trade Center Club, Conference Center, Restaurant, and World Trade Center Ljubljana offices are located on the 15th floor. From the top of the building one can admire one of the most beautiful views of Ljubljana, Slovenias capital city, and on a clear day more than half of Slovenia from our highest mountain Mount Triglav in the west and Mount Snećnik in the south to the Karavanke mountain chain in the north and the Dolenjska region in the east. There are eighty shops in the Shopping Mall ranging from the Zivila Supermarket to the Mura European Fashion Design Center and several restaurants and coffee shops. The underground garage has parking for more than 800 cars. Together with its partners including the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia, the Trade and Investment Promotion office of Slovenia, and Trade Point Slovenia, the World Trade Center Ljubljana offers trade information and consulting services as well as organizational and technical support and organizes business contacts, conferences, visits of trade missions to Slovenia and abroad, and various educational programs related to international trade for Slovene companies and visiting business people from all over the world. The World Trade Center Ljubljana has developed very close contacts and joint activities with sister World Trade Centers in Europe including those in Vienna, Geneva, Zurich, Dresden, Paris, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Zagreb, Rijeka, Belgrade, Skopje, Trieste, and most recently Sarajevo. For the past five years, members of the World Trade Center Ljubljana have participated at the World of Private Label Trade Show in Amsterdam. Cooperation with European Agri-Nutri Trade Center in Leeuwarden in The Netherlands began in 1997. |

Electronic and virtual services are becoming increasingly vital for the future prosperity of all companies in the world and are even more important for relatively smaller countries such as Slovenia that are very dependent on international trade. In this field, we find very important our links with the World Trade Centers Association and its services on the global level provided by the WTCAs On-Line System, Electronic Trade Opportunities, and Trade Leads, Global Data Banks and Resource Centers, Virtual Trade Fair, Global Link Telecommunication System, and its latest project, Trade Card, which will introduce new standards in international trade for the next century. The first virtual World Trade Center University also started this year. We believe the decision taken nine years ago to join the family of the World Trade Centers Association has proven correct, and there are many more opportunities to expand our present activities at both the national and company level. The World Trade Centers Association is today the largest business association in the world, with 226 members with over 500,000 individual businesses involved in international trade in ninety-eight countries on all continents.
